Are you looking to get away from winter for awhile?  Keep in mind some often-forgotten tips for traveling safely.

- Don't carry large amounts of cash.  Use traveler's checks that can usually be replaced within 24 hours.

- Use ATMs only during daylight hours.  If it's really necessary after dark, find one that is in a busy, well-lit area such as a grocery store.

- Be sure that no one is standing behind you at the ATM, or shield the keypad while entering your PIN number.

- Leave copies of trip information with family members or friends at home.

- Keep credit cards, cash, your passport, and plane tickets separate.

- Take only the credit cards you know you will use with you.  Leave department store cards, frequent shopper points cards, etc. at home.

- Leave your regular checkbook at home.

- Be sure to have home deliveries stopped.

- Men may want to keep a "dummy" wallet in their back pockets with a minimal amount of money, while having their "real" wallet some place else.

- Women, do not hang your purses on the hook on the back of the bathroom door.  Too often, thieves can easily reach over the top of the door and quickly snatch it.

A few minutes spent on simple safety precautions could help you avoid huge disaster!
