Our friends at the Colorado Springs Utilities give us this terrific vacation checklist to help save some money and protect our homes!
Unplug appliances, including the washer and dryer. Many have "smart" features that use electricity even though they are turned off.
Turn off the water at the main valve to your home.
Use a time for indoor lights, and motion sensors for outdoor lighting.
Set the water heater to the lowest setting, or turn it off if it can be done safely.
Raise the thermostat by at least eight degrees if you are leaving the air conditioning on.
A few precautionary steps can give you great peace of mind and some extra dollars in your pocket. Have a great vacation!
